Reading school book

Kalamatianos, T. Giannopoulos, D. Doukas, D. Delipetros, N. Kontopoulos Reading book of the Fifth grade of Elementary School, 1961. School Books Publishing Organisation (OEDB)

The strengthening of the national and religious elements, the promotion of the respect for nature, family and the homeland, and the formation of a moral citizen are some of the characteristics that stand out through the pages of the Reading book of the Fifth grade of Elementary School. The texts in the first part of the book were written in the modern Greek language, while in the second part purist Greek prevailed, a policy that had been applied in 1954 for the books of the 4th, 5th and 6th grade. The 1964 reform established modern Greek as the language of Reading books of all grades. The illustration of the book, following the requirements of those times, projected idealised child figures and beautified historical personalities, while the decoration of the Reading book was framed with woodcuts, full-page printed engravings, text inserts, footnotes with decorative elements and pre-pages.
